Summative Assessment
"When the cook tastes the soup, that's formative assessment; when the customer tastes the soup, that's summative assessment." - Paul Black

Summative assessments are a beneficial way to evaluate my students learning at the end of a unit. Again, I acknowledge that there is not one formula that can be applied to all of my students. Therefore, to target each of my students learning needs, I will conduct summative assessments in a way that will allow them all to achieve to the best of their ability.

The summative assessments that I will use will inform me of my students understanding as a whole. While I will have formative assessments throughout the lesson or unit, I will use summative assessments as a way to conclude what has been taught. I will use assessments as a way to guide students efforts and our activities cross-curricularly.

While I will use various forms of summative assessments such as tests, quizzes, written reports and presentations, I will use the formative assessments incorporated throughout the term in order to inform my understanding of my students learning.

Summative Assessments that you may find in my classroom; appropriate to the activity with slight adjustments per grade level:
Final Projects

Final projects are a creative way for students to demonstrate what they have grasped from the lesson at hand.
Portfolio's

Student portfolio's are a creative way for students to showcase the knowledge they have acquired throughout the lesson or unit.
Unit Test

Unit tests allow students to revisit notions that have been taught and allow me to see which students have and have not yet grasped the material after multiple formative assessments.

Quizlet
Quizlet is an interactive tool that utilizes flashcards, quizzes, games, tests and more in order to evaluate students understanding of the unit.
Rubrics

I believe that rubrics permit students to know what is expected of them and allows for clear grading. Rubrics as summative assessment allows me to assess various areas of students learning and understanding.
