Teaching Mathematics
Why teaching Math is important
Teaching mathematics is vital as it helps students transfer the skills they have developed towards other areas of their learning. Math is not only a subject taught for in school use, it extends beyond the classroom and into everyday lives. Mathematics is a topic that can be understood and explored. It allows students to grasp, analyze, critique and think critically about situations in their world. While many question the use of math, the skills required in the study of mathematics are applied cross curricular as well as in simple day to day activities. When teaching math, we provide our students with essential knowledge that will promote various types of thinking and will benefit them on their journeys to success.
What to expect

Within this section of my portfolio, you will find my vision of the Math teacher I wish to be. Math is not only an important subject in school, it is vital in our everyday lives. It allows us to develop and transfer skills cross curricular and within our daily activities. It must be delivered in a way that is fun, engaging, challenging and can be understood. Math Enactment

This was a lesson on measurement that explored four different ways of measuring and sought to see what the students had grasped. For more information about the lesson, click here.

Math is not a spectator sport.
It's not a body of knowledge,
it's not symbols on a page.
It's something you play with,
it's something you do.
